Scary...what are they doing to those kids?

This is a fifteen minute video on math for 4th & 5th grades. If you have a child in public school you should watch this!
I just think it's scary how much power and control the government has in our public schools. Those poor kids. I would have been so lost as a 4th grader at that school. My mom teaches 3rd grade in Jefferson County (Golden, CO) and had to introduce new math curriculum this year that seems pretty similar. She hates it!

Rose,
That was an amazing find on You Tube! I am so thankful that I know what my kids are learning and how they are learning it.

Denise, yes...I think every parent (no matter what type of school their child is in) needs to know how and what their children are learning! As homeschoolers that's pretty easy :)
Have a great week!

You have GOT to be kidding me. That totally gives me a stomach ache. The scary part is that parents are busy, right? So, maybe they don't have time to investigate their kids curriculum before the kids actually have to start learning it. Oooh, my stomach just hurts! I wasn't allowed to use a calculator until, when was it Rose? Alg 2/Trig or Calculus?!

That makes me upset. Hmph. Thanks for sharing... very important info.

Do they think this is easier in some way? This is just ridiculous. No wonder kids hate school. This just sets them up for failure.

kameron, for me calculators weren't allowed until calculus. And even then we weren't allowed to turn them on. We could only hold them. crazy.

wow. that was painful to watch.

Tim, we all know you didn't take calculus. Did you even make it through geometry or Algebra 2? Don't be hatin' just 'cuz we like math and you hate it.

Rose..that was the most painful youtube i have ever watched..give me crazy stupid people doing crazy stupid stuff anyday. Math was a nightmare for me in school and that was doing it the normal way!!! I would have never passed if it was as confusing as this.
I am using the math-u-see curriculum with luciana and I cannot say enough positive stuff about it i love, love, love it!!! It is helping me re-learn some things and has made math simple and fun- she loves it. It also completely equips parents to teach math well (which i needed seeing it was a weak spot for me) and enjoy the process..just seeing luciana understand and enjoy math makes me happy and makes homeschooling worth all the effort!

rose i don't need to be a fourth grader to be confused...she confused me as an adult! math was not my strength in school and i know i would have done even worse if i had to do it this way!

hey rose, i think i have to disagree w/ you all, i like it! i really enjoyed the video!

ok, it's not so efficient, but coming from an ex-engineer, we didn't bother w/ math anyways - that was for the mathmeticians. we dealt more with theory.

in any case, it does teach reasoning and logic. but the key i think is to teach the standard method first, then this would be a secondary method / alternative to teach older kids to reason and think thru stuff.

but hey, that's my warped sense of fun! hahahaha
